In recent years governments have issued emergency recalls of such consumer products as toys and jewelry.  You know why? They found out that dangerous levels of lead have been detected in some of these items where in young children tend to suck chew on them.  Lead poisoning can be especially dangerous for children under six years of age, since there central nervous system is still developing.
